Outreach

What an exciting year we have going on here at St. Andrews by the Sea! Please scroll down for all the current projects and future projects!!!

Our Outreach Ministry is alive and well and growing each day.  Outreach focuses on ways to support those in need in our parish, our community, our region , our country and our world.  We are Christ's hands at work.  We support a number of local and state programs with monetary donations including Interfaith Community Outreach, Beach Food Pantry, Community Care Clinic, Albermarle Food Bank, Thompson Children's Home, Episcopal Farm Worker Ministry, Pathways International, Food for Thought and Stop Hunger Now. We also support the South American Mission Society  through missionary Cameron Graham and Bishop Slaita for his literacy program in Uganda.

New and exciting  hands on programs that we sponsor and support are Ruthie's Kitchen which has taken over our Community Suppers and Room in the Inn which houses at this time about 10 homeless people.  Both of the activities are a community effort and can always use more volunteers any time.  We also provide volunteers for the Food for Thought a program which packs food for needy children in all our elementary schools in the county.  We also host the Lifeguard dinners each month in the summer and support our local lifeguards through food, fellowship and care packages.  We have a wonderful Prison Ministry at the Dare County Detention Center that provides morning services twice a month.  We also sell jewelry for the African Team Ministry made by African Craftsman as well as Gifts of Grace at the Holidays and now will be year round.

The plans for 2010 are to continue in our ministries and make them grow and reach even more needs.  For some time a goal has been to plan a mission trip for adults and youth at St. Andrews.  2010 is the year this becomes a reality.  Look for a new bulletin board where you can post suggestions and see photos of ideas of trips.  We will then look at all the ideas near and far and plan for this year and years to come.  This is to be a group effort not just our youth or adults.  Smile  Hope  to see you there!

We look forward to an exciting and active year and need your hands and your heart to succeed.  If you would like to join us or would like more information  please do not hesitate to contact Bronwyn Thorton @ outreach@saintandrewsobx.com.

Gifts of Grace

Honor someone special with a gift to a local charity.  Each Donation receives a "Gifts of Grace" card to send to those you wish to honor.  Donations accepted in the Book and Card Shop.

                                          ROOM IN THE INN (RITI)

Room in the Inn is a church based shelter program begun at St. Andrews in January 2009.  It moved each week to a different hosting church for a total of 10 weeks.  The main mission is hospitality, food and shelter.  Each hosting church provides dinner, overnight accommodations, breakfast and a bag lunch.

There is an intake process from 5:00 to 6:00 at the Community Development Corporation building in Kill Devil Hills from 5:00 to 6:00.  The Intake Worker drives the guests to the hosting church and stays about one hour to answer any questions and provide a nice transition for the guests and hosting church.  The guests are picked up at 8:00 the next morning and taken to the Dept. of Recreation in Kill Devil Hills for showers if they would like.  They are then dropped off at the intake site.

In 2010, Room in the Inn operated for 13 weeks.  For the 2010/2011 winter season, RITI will operate for 20 weeks.  At present there are 9 hosting churches with several taking multiple weeks, however smaller churches are helping with meals and providing some overnight hosts.  If you would like to help with this ministry, please call Gail Leonard 207-8820 or email at oopsgail@gmail.com
