St. Andrew’s Welcoming Ministry welcomes all visitors into our family. We gladly greet those who choose to visit us for worship or fellowship and demonstrate to them the good news that we share among our community in working for Christ’s kingdom.

We welcome all those interested in joining our parish and offer multiple ways to fill your needs through our various ministries (See menu above). It is our passion to support all new members to become an active part of our parish.

For more information for newcomers or to participate in the ministry of welcoming newcomers, please contact Mary Jo Wagner at

The Outer Banks is a destination for many newcomers and for tourists. All are welcome at St. Andrew’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church. Any baptized person is welcome to receive Holy Communion at any service. Services are held each Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. in the Chapel and 10:30 a.m. in the  Church and every Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel.

The following are ways in which you may seek formal membership with the Parish:

Any person already baptized may be registered as a baptized member of the Parish. “Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church.” (Book of Common Prayer, page 298.) The Episcopal Church recognizes as valid any Baptism administered with water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

If you were not baptized in an Episcopal Church, simply bring or mail a copy of your baptismal or confirmation certificate to the Parish Office with the request that you be registered as a baptized member. If you do not have a certificate, please bring the details of when, where, and in what denomination you were baptized to the Parish Office.

If you would like to be baptized or to have a child baptized, please contact the Church Administrator to make an appointment with Father Phil. Baptisms are scheduled during the year at appropriate services.

If you have been baptized or confirmed in the Episcopal Church, or have been a member of another Episcopal Church, please contact our Parish office to request that your membership letter be transferred here. You will need to provide the church name and the city. It is also helpful to provide the date of confirmation and/or the approximate dates of your membership at your former Parish. Also, it is important that you provide the name by which you were known in your former parish if it is different than the name you are known by today.

Church members who were baptized as infants may choose to affirm their faith as adults through the Rite of Confirmation by the Bishop of the Diocese. In addition, the Bishop may receive those who have been confirmed in other denominations in the historic succession (i.e. Roman Catholic, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America or Eastern Orthodox) into the Episcopal Church. Those who have been baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church and wish to recommit themselves to the life of faith may choose to reaffirm their baptismal covenant with the Bishop.

The Inquirers Class is held annually to prepare  those desiring Confirmation, Reception or Reaffirmation into St. Andrew’s By-the-Sea. Please schedule an appointment with one of the Clergy if you are interested in being received or confirmed, or wish to reaffirm your baptismal covenant, and particularly if you are uncertain about which of these rites may be appropriate for you.

A St. Andrew's greeter welcomes newcomers before and/or after the regular Sunday services (8AM and 10:30 AM).  We have newcomer dinners periodically during the year.  Newcomers are invited to participate in various church sponsored activities, depending on their individual interests.

Please make yourself known to a member of the Vestry, a Greeter, the Rector, or the office staff so that we may welcome you and inform you of the next event.
