Greetings from St. Andrew’s by the Sea Nags Head! We extend our cordial invitation to you and your acolytes to participate in the 2010 Eastern Dioceses of North Carolina Acolyte Festival on Saturday, April 17th, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s by the sea Episcopal Church. All acolytes’ young and old, acolyte directors, and acolyte parents are encouraged to attend. The Festival is a wonderful enrichment opportunity for you, your acolytes, and anyone from your parish with an interest in this ministry. We hope that participants will return home with both new skills and a renewed enthusiasm for liturgy—literally “the work of the people”—and its central place in the rich, participatory tradition of Anglican worship.
The Service
Our day begins with the festival Eucharist. All acolyte attendees’ process in their vestments, carrying their parish banners and any other processional items they wish to bring along. The service will include a blessing of the acolytes and a special guest homilist. Parents are especially encouraged to attend the festival Eucharist.
The Workshops
Workshops include instruction in key acolyte responsibilities during the Eucharist and in processions (including thurifer training). For adults, we will have an Acolyte Directors’ and Parents’ Roundtable.
The Acolyte Olympics
The festival concludes with the Acolyte Olympics, a set of activities that combine fun and acolyte skills, The winning team earns the “Lavabo Bowl” trophy to take back to display at their home parish.
Registration
Registration forms are enclosed. Please use either the group form or the individual forms, NOT both. If possible, mail your registration in a single packet with all fees included. For chaperoning purposes, we suggest a ratio of one adult to five children. Adult chaperones need to remain at the festival as long as the acolytes from their parish are there.
Please note that regular registration, which guarantees you a T-shirt, Lunch, workshops, games and the BISHOPS BALL, ends March 26th. Late registration extends from March 26 through the day of the event, but due to production lead-time we cannot guarantee late registrants will receive a T-shirt. Please note that anyone else who would like to eat lunch and come back for our evening Old Fashion FISH/CHICKEN FRY and THE BISHOPS Ball will have to register and pay in advance.
