Vestry

Senior Warden Report January 2012

The new vestry from the December elections were welcomed and incorporated at
the Vestry Retreat held on Saturday, January 14th.
Please welcome and support Pat Fleming, John Wilding, Joe Brauch, Jay
Tutwiler, Butch Luke, and Robert Trivette.  Pat will be helping John
Stockton with membership.  Her main role will be overseeing that the
recommendations adopted at the Magnetic Church Conference held at St.
Andrew's last fall are carried out.  This is a huge calling, but Pat is
already engaged.

John Wilding will be co-chairing the Parish Life ministry with Dick
Campbell.  It is an important social ministry within St Andrew's helping us
to work and have fun together.  Our new vestry liaison for Outreach is Joe
Brauch.  Along with Outreach, Joe will be an essential component to helping
Cola Vaughn with his Building and Ground's ministry.  The Pastoral Care
ministry will be headed by Jay Tutwiler.
Jay will be working closely with Father Phil.  Butch Luke will covering
Children and Youth, and Robert Trivette is your new Junior Warden.  He will
also continue his work with Stewardship.

This is a dynamic group which is working hard for you, the members of St
Andrew's.
We have been fortunate to have the leadership of Father Phil.  He will be
helping us as a group to understand  the importance of discipleship so we
may better serve you.  Please support the Vestry with your prayers, time,
and special talents.  Our goal is to energize St.
Andrew's to be the face of Christ in our community, and the world.  We can't
do this without you!  Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

What is a Vestry?
The Vestry is the governing body of an Episcopal Church, elected to represent the people of the Parish. At St. Andrews, our vestry is made up of twelve Parish members, the Senior and Junior Warden (similar to President and Vice President) and the Rector. The Wardens and Vestry members are elected at the Annual Parish Meeting, and serve three-year terms of office.

The Vestry is responsible for all church property and assets, approves the budget, and authorizes major expenditures. The Vestry calls (hires) the Rector, with the approval of the Bishop, and sets the Rector’s salary on the recommendation of the Wardens. The Rector, in turn, hires and supervises all other Clergy and church staff, and has canonical responsibility for the liturgy and worship programs of the Parish.

The Vestry meets monthly (every third Tuesday) to discuss, reflect and take action on the many important aspects of Parish life. It consists of 12 members of the Parish, the Senior and Junior Wardens, the Secretary, the Treasurer, and the Rector. The Wardens and Vestry members are elected at the Annual Parish Meeting, and serve three-year terms of office. It is important to the Vestry that all parishioners feel welcome to share their thoughts and ideas about God’s vision for us as a Christian community, and about your ideas for St. Andrews.

Parishioners are welcome to attend Vestry meetings.
